“When Redshift joined the Maxon family in 2019, expanding support for our user community on the Mac platform was a top priority,” said Maxon CEO David McGavran. With native M1-powered Mac support, 3D artists on macOS will experience a significant improvement in workflows since the integrated graphics in the M1 provide a huge increase in graphics performance combined with low power consumption. Maxon says Redshift for macOS means a milestone because it provides groundbreaking movie reproduction for Mac artists. Redshift is available for both Intel-based Macs and M1-powered Macs (aka: Apple Silicon-based Macs). While many competing GPU-based renderers are “non-biased”, Redshift is actually a biased rendering that allows artists to adjust the quality of individual rendering techniques to achieve optimal balance between quality and performance for overall production. Redshift is a GPU-based rendering and drains the power of the computer’s graphics processing unit (GPU) instead of the CPU as Maxon Cinema 4D’s standard rendering engine.
